Jane and Jenna of Asbury University met up with Smokey during their live broadcast of the Glennallen Fourth of July Parade.
Whether you are looking for college credit or simply hands-on experience, we can tailor your time at KCAM to fit your needs. More than just a learning experience, though, we ask that you consider your Alaskan adventure a missions trip – come with a heart to serve, to be blessed, and to expand your knowledge and develop relationships.
You may qualify for scholarships, or fulfill cross-cultural or Christian ministry requirements as well. Please check with your school to find out what they offer, and talk to us about tailoring your time here to fit those needs.

Meet some of our student alumni:
Andrew (from Brazil)
The time I spent helping Scott and Michelle at KCAM was super fun as well as a real time of growth for me. I was able to bring my engineering experience and fix a number of things that were broken or not functioning properly. Scott and Michelle taught me how to read news casts and do live events on air. The time spent in Alaska gave me loads of good experience in live radio. The neat thing is that KCAM’s purpose is to reach out and preach Christ to the unsaved in the region. I will always remember KCAM and the people involved in this ministry and would love to return someday.
Rebekah (from Georgia)
I enjoy being here because it’s a fun environment and the people who work here love what they’re doing.
Jonathan (from Alabama)
The reasons I would choose KCAM over any other radio station is because 1) the Christian morals they uphold and 2) for the on-air experience that they offer just about right away.
Where
Glennallen, Alaska, is located 189 miles northeast of Anchorage. The town has about 500 residents, although KCAM’s listening area coverages approximately 3,000 people. We’re in rural Alaska, with limited options for shopping, but plenty of hiking, fishing, and outdoor recreation.
When
That’s up to you! Let us know when you are available. We ask for a commitment of eight to twelve weeks to allow time for traveling, training, working, and exploring our beautiful region.
Who
We welcome applications from anyone who has been out of high school for at least one year. Broadcasting experience is helpful, but not required. Please let us know your situation, experience, and interest, and we’ll work with you to find the best fit here.
What You Will Do
We offer unpaid internships of eight weeks or more that give hands-on training using state-of-the-art equipment. You’ll get a wide range of experience, from on-air work to gathering news, programming music, and promoting the ministry at community events. For students needing internship credits, we customize our program to give you the experience your college requires.
Even if you have no prior broadcasting experience, we can train you if you have a heart for missions and teamwork. Besides on-air work, we need engineers, computer technicians, accountants, and maintenance workers.
If you’re looking for God’s direction in your life, we encourage you to consider ministry at KCAM. Our staff is made up of missionaries who have been called to bring the Good News of Christ through radio broadcasting. Joy Media Ministries is our nonprofit organization providing tax-deductible receipts to all donors.
